While growing up I always knew the difference between being truly alone in my bedroom and feeling like I wasn’t alone. I’m not talking about my family or friends walking in or raiding my closet. I’m talking about some other entity. (Insert scary music here!) While laying around reading a book, I would feel a slight brush against my shoulder or someone sitting on the bedspread even though there was no fan on and the pets were downstairs. The best way to describe it is to think of how you feel when you just know you forgot something back at your house and sure enough, your glasses, keys or wallet are sitting on the counter.
The sensations always freaked me out but I took solace in the fact my story is not the next installment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Poltergeist. If I was truly feeling a spirit…it was highly interested in my boring junior high telephone conversations and the Madonna tape that I would play over and over again. I wonder for a brief moment if ghosts, spirits and angels have a choice as to whom they get stuck with? Mine were probably slapping their head against the palm of their hand saying: “Greattttt…Does anyone want to trade?”
When I entered my college years I started seeing two people in the room – first a male and then later, a female. This vision would only occur about once every 6 months to a year but it was always either one of these two aberrations. One evening while trying to go to sleep I saw a man standing at the foot of my bed, clear as day, half smiling at me. He had a hat on from the 40’s or 50’s (like Johnny Depp in that new FBI movie) and he was wearing a long coat. Usually I would pass this off and try blinking a few times. Perhaps my synapses were miss-firing from the plethora of diet sodas I had earlier. Perhaps Johnny Depp finally received my fan “love” letter and has come to tell me he feels the same! Turns out it was someone else standing at the foot of my bed and I felt like he knew me very well.
Another time I woke up to a woman kneeling down on the floor next to the bed. She had a nice white veil on and she was obviously praying. I quickly checked to make sure I had all of my limbs and she did not leave my side right away. She slowly raised her head and looked right at me.
In some readings I have been told they are spirits or ghosts and in others I hear they are my guides showing themselves to me.
Here are my questions: Are they my spirit guides? Angels? Ghosts? Do guides and angels ever show themselves? How do you detect a ghost or spirit from an actual guide? Who are your guides?
